Cookie Journal with Seidy: Trust Quiet Growth

Cookie Journal with Seidy: Trust Quiet Growth

Ever feel like you’re stuck and not making much progress toward your goals? I’ve been there—many times. It’s easy to get caught up in what isn’t happening fast enough or the milestones you haven’t reached. But if we take the time to look back on our journey, we can often see just how far we’ve come.

When I first started baking as a side business in 2014, I wanted to offer all kinds of desserts. My focus was too broad, time was limited, and resources were stretched thin. Fast-forward to 2023, I decided to start Crème Bakery and focus exclusively on giant, New York-style cookies. In the beginning, we offered just two flavors a week. I worked with a small 4.5-quart mixer, whipping up single batches in my kitchen and selling to neighbors and the local community. This single shift in focus allowed me to see the bigger picture and a clearer path forward.

By narrowing my offerings, I could refine my process and create a schedule that felt more organized. This focus led me to start a Shopify store, which opened up the possibility of shipping orders nationwide and taking orders without necessarily speaking to the client. At the time, this growth didn’t feel like much, but a few months later, I upgraded to a 6-quart mixer, doubling my output. Today, I’m proud to say we use a 15-quart mixer, have a dedicated cookie freezer, and recently opened a space in Seminole Heights to work out of—a milestone I once only dreamed of.

Despite all this progress, growth often felt invisible—and some days, it still does. I want more. I often catch myself comparing my business to larger cookie companies that have been around for 2, 5, or even 30 years. In the early days, it felt like I was working for free; every dollar was reinvested into the business, and the books barely showed us breaking even.

It’s funny how our minds fixate on the big, overwhelming goals instead of focusing on the next step ahead. We admire the ‘overnight success’ of others but often overlook the years of effort, setbacks, and countless hours that brought them there. And it won’t be any different for you if you’re starting fresh —and that’s perfectly okay.

It’s easy to romanticize overnight success stories, but the truth? They’re rare, if they even exist. Real growth is quiet. It happens in the moments when no one is watching. It’s built during the long days when you keep showing up for your dream, even when it feels like nothing is moving forward.
But let me be honest—there are days I want to quit. So many days! The self-doubt, exhaustion, and slow pace are tough to bear. What keeps me going is a deep love for what I do and the belief that showing up everyday matters. Even when no one is watching, even when no one is cheering you on, you have to be your own biggest supporter. That’s what entrepreneurship demands.

Looking back, I see now that every small step laid the foundation for the bigger ones. Whether it was investing in better equipment, expanding offerings, or creating an e-commerce website, every community post and every little move added to my story.

So here’s my reminder to you: Dream big. Work hard. Give yourself grace when progress feels slow, and trust that your quiet growth is leading to something extraordinary.
